Snowgums

Artist: Suzanne Lees
Location: Zonta Club of Melbourne on Yarra, District 23, Australia

Snowgums (Eucalyptus pauciflora) are an iconic alpine and sub-alpine plant in Australia’s
High Country.

They are suffering badly from climate change causing higher temperatures, drought,
bushfires, and disease.

Less water is available due to less snowfall and a rising snow line.

They are very fire-sensitive and are being affected by more frequent fires.

As temperatures warm, they are being decimated by an infestation of climate-related
beetle (dieback).

Beautiful and fragile, deserving protection from climate change.
